Holi celebrated with traditional fervor

ITANAGAR, Mar 28: 'GULAL' and joyous spirit prevailed in the streets yesterday as Pasighatians came out to celebrate HOLI in the town. They celebrated Holi with lot of enthusiasm and zeal applying ‘Gulal’ on each other, gorging on sweets and singing and dancing to songs and drum beats. Children enjoyed the most as they sprayed coloured water using water guns and hurled water-filled balloons on people.

There were gusto and bonhomie as merrymakers, with clothes drenched in myriad hues, thronged lanes and narrow alleys and distributed sweets. People embraced each other wishing ‘Happy Holi’ as unseen hands squirted them with a well-timed coloured water spray.

A true and caring relation doesn't have to speak loud. It was a platform for all to renew friendship and to express heartiest love and good wishes.

Irrespective of their casts, creeds and religion one and every officer and official of Changlang, dance to the tune of local Gangnam. The sound of local drum beats and the famous “Sa… Ra… Ra… Ra… Ra… Ra… Holi Hai” echoed in the atmosphere. Felt cheated after writing the exam

Dear Editor,

Through the column of your esteemed daily, I would like to voice my contempt against the Examination conducted on 24th March 2013 for the Recruitment of Junior Engineers (EM) in the Department of Hydro Power. Being a student of Computer Science & Engineering, I was pretty excited at first about appearing for this exam since opportunities rarely come knocking for our department in the state government. But I feel cheated after taking the said examination. To quote one of our friends who was in the same room with me, “This was a disaster. A complete mockery of any examination conducted till now by an Engineering Department!”

The Department of Hydro Power in its advertisement published on this daily the 12th of October 2012, mentioned 2 (two) Junior Engineer (EM) posts for which diploma graduates of both Computer Engineering and Electronics Telecommunication Engineering were eligible to apply. Going by their advertisement, both the disciplines were equally preferable for the post. The technical paper was completely biased and any candidate from computer science stands no chance for securing even the qualifying marks for selection. Out of the 100 marks in the technical paper more than 70 per cent of the questions were from electronics branch. We were astounded and raised our objection to this gross injustice. A good one hour after the commencement of exam, the concerned authority came up with a unique and bizarre solution. An official came and wrote 3 questions on the blackboard in front of us giving us an option to choose from those or the ones given in the question paper. He then assured us that extra time would be given to us in the end to make up for the lost time. My question to the concerned authority is, is this the way examinations for a coveted post such as Junior Engineer be held from now on? We are not appearing for a school examination where a teacher would come and make some last ditch corrections in the question paper. If you were to set a question paper keeping in mind the proportion of candidates appearing for the said post, then 70 per cent of questions should have been from computer department.

Computer Science and Engineering Students have been widely overlooked and undermined and this latest incident did no good to us either. The number of diploma and degree graduates in computer science and engineering are a vast majority and is second only to civil or electrical branches, but the treatment of Engineering Departments of the State towards us is discouraging to say the least. Computer Science & Engineering Department is a full pledged Engineering department and we are as proficient and equally qualified as other departments of engineering. We honestly deserve more from the concerned authorities.

Yours,

Mamung

Left, right, everywhere you need “Sifarish”

Dear Editor,

I would like to attract the kind attention of the concerned citizens of the Arunachal towards the trend which predominantly exists in the state that the interference of political leaders or so called “big bosses” in the various offices of the state is at uncontrollable situation. They are on the way to drag down the image and pride of the state. When we pay a visit to some offices we get to see many of their relatives and their workers stroll into the office with piece of papers in their hands. Those pieces of papers are nothing but the note or recommendations or so called “sifarish” of the political leaders asking the officers to do something in their favour. Those leaders write a note on the piece of paper demanding ‘work orders’ and other related works to be given to their relatives and their closed ones. If this be the condition of the state, what would be the options for those unemployed youths, innocent and virtuous businessmen and contractors??? Well, I assume, there will be more thefts, insurgencies, extortions, and so on, and notably, perhaps the formation of more unions or associations. Some leaders even try to interfere in the offices of the other districts. If the leaders of other district interfere in the other district, what would native people do??

Therefore, I would like to urge all the concerned citizens to criticize such selfish leaders who are concerned only for their own interest. They are those political leaders who know nothing other than to indulge in corrupt practices and they are never to be supported and encouraged.

Yours,

Jarchok Buchi,

Likabali.

Dignity of honest promise be restored

Dear Editor,

Apropos to the explanation given by the secretary planning(Govt.of A.P)regarding the delay and deprivation of CM talent award to the deserving students it may further be added that the Govt should go for quick investigation of the matter so as to confirm whether entire process got delayed due to red tapism or misappropriation. The situation becomes dubious and the promise seems to be half and hollow. Some of the students only received half of the award, that is Rs.10000/- and their dream of owning a Laptop is gradually vanishing into the air.

There are many more students whose dream of owning laptop is still yet to be fulfilled and their talents are yet to be recognized by the government.

The students are feeling frustrated and it is high time that the matter may kindly be brought into broad day light so that due transparency is established and the dignity of an honest promise in the field of education is restored.

Yours

Took away the essence of letter

Dear Editor,

I am a keen and avid reader of your paper and highly appreciate your efforts and its quality. But, I was greatly disappointed and dejected with the quality of editing in the 'Readers Forum'. My letter to the Readers Forum ('Headquarter should be selected after scientific and objective evaluation-27th March') was edited in a way that took away the very essence of the letter.  In third paragraph I wrote:

" The location of Likabali make it easily accessible from any place of the proposed District, transport and communication facilities are good, it is a place of strategic importance with repeated attacks from the neighboring Assam; and moreover, it has great importance as a historic and tourist spot (Malinithan)"; and it was edited as:

"The location of Likabali makes it easily accessible from any place of the proposed importance with repeated attacks from the neighboring Assam and moreover, it has great importance as a historic and tourist spot (Malinithan)."

Moreover there were a few grammatical errors also in editing. These sort of negligence (or may be typing error) is not expected from the paper of such a high repute and stature; which is indeed regarded as 'The Voice of Arunachal'.

Avoid mistakes which can bring harm

Dear Editor,

Through your esteemed daily I would like to bring to the notice of people that in an article published in your daily on 27th March in the reader forum column by one Gonya Riba under the headline "Lets us live together peacefully" he mentioned Adi Baane Kebang (ABK) as Adi Baane Keba. It is not a small mistake as such mistake could bring misunderstanding among the people. Your daily is browsed and accessed across the India as well as overseas. They may get wrong impression and can wrongly pronounce its actual stand for meaning. Adi Bane Kebang is a respectable organization and they represent Adi community and their interest in higher level. Therefore, such an error should be avoided in future.

District HQ is not everything for Lower Siang District

Dear Editor,

It’s so inspiring and heart-touching to go through the emotional outburst of people of the newly created Siang, Namsai and Kraa Daadi districts, singing heartfelt gratitude and ever gratefulness to their leaders of the respective areas and especially to our present Chief Minister Nabam Tuki.

I wonder, when will our day come? Then the birds & the animals, mountains, river and its tributaries will also sing with the echo of praises by the people of Likabali-Gensi & Nari-Koyu area to their beloved leaders and brethren who have put all their effort to let the Dream come true. After all, we too have the same blood, heart and mind like the people of newly declared districts - Siang, Namsai & Kraa Daadi. But, Alas! It’s the very little controversy over the Dist HQ matter that is playing with our very emotion deep down of our heart struggling to outburst in resonant with the loudness of the people of the Siang, Namsai & Kraa Daadi.

I would like to ask my own-self and to all concern, especially to my own brethren of Likabali-Gensi area, are we too wise or too intelligent or too judgmental to make the thing straight? Or are we simply making our own stumbling block to our own goodness or is it the external forces confusing our cool headedness to think in the rightful direction? For God sake, kindly find a solution to say –“atleast it’s Okay!” Many of my own brethren may not agree with me, but as per my little wisdom goes, Likabali is not fit for the Dist HQ, because (1) It is situated nearby Assam border which may led to entering of anti social elements from neighbouring state. So, let at least the Dist HQ be located at the undisputed location, (2) it does not have enough land for the vast Dist Hq infrastructures to be established and (3) Soil as a whole is not suitable taking into the consideration of nature’s fury.

I think, district headquarter is not everything for Lower Siang District. We have enormous human development index to be enhanced. Let’s not our focus be only for the DC/SP and other HOD Offices. Very soon, after the establishment of the District Infrastructures, we have to look forward for many other human development aspects like roads, bridges, the establishment of educational institutes, hospitals, corporate & other business establishments etc. Sometimes, in the wildest of  my mind, I think that we should let our senior public and elite brethren from Nari-Koyu & Likabali-Gensi area to make a trip to Anjaw District once and see with their own eyes how beautifully the Anjaw District headquarter has been established; everything with plan and phase-wise completion. If Anjaw can be of such a spectacular District and its HQ at Hawai, then why can’t be ours’ at Siki-Rima or anywhere just on the mountain top of my village (Silli) like or at Siji-maji if we have enough stretch of land for the District HQ where we need not have to hear the screaming all around for the land compensation etc??  The Anjaw district is situated at a far-flung China border, but our entire foot-hill belt of both Nari-Koyu and Likabali-Gensi and its proposed Dist HQs are just hardly 10-20Kms away from the National Highway.  Well, one may argue that Hawai was already having Circle HQ then. But, the mini-secretariat at Hawai is much away from the then Circle HQ, where even no proper road link were there. Rest, you kindly think and imagine!

My prayer at this hour to the brethren of Nari-Koyu & Likabali-Gensi for the Lower Siang District and its Dist HQ going to be is – kindly let us sacrifice our own-angled motives for the sake of the welfare of the entire people of the Likabali-Gensi and Nari-Koyu, looking forward and towards the generations to come.  The Darkest hour is just before the dawn. We are anxiously waiting for the ray of sunrise at our Land – LOWER SIANG DISTRICT! I hope and I am sure that we are going to have the top Model with a Latest Technology District Infrastructures with its District Headquarter as the Light House. God bless!I am very sorry, if anybody disagree me.

Yours

Cancer and preventive measures

Researchers from 15 developed and developing countries have called for better global coordination of research and prevention efforts against cancer, which kills 7.5 million people each year.

A joint report published this month in Science Translational Medicine focuses on five areas that will help slash cancer cases and deaths. Cancer currently accounts for 15 per cent of all deaths.

These areas are the keeping of better and more coordinated registries, stronger action on prevention, easier and cheaper screening methods, better access to treatment, and the open exchange of research findings.
